Originally constructed in 1929, the Champion and Pearson Building served as both a funeral parlor and residence for the Pearson family during the height of the Jim Crow era. Located in Columbia, South Carolina, the building was a cornerstone of the city’s African-American business district and stands as a significant example of early 20th-century commercial architecture. Now repurposed, the building is home to the Belser Law Firm, continuing its legacy through renewed use while preserving its historic character. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
