Columbia Street West

Columbia Street West, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was originally developed in the 19th century. Over the years, the buildings have been an integral part of Fort Wayne’s commercial history, serving as a major business district and a hub for commerce and transportation during the canal and railway era. The area was home to Fort Wayne’s first post office, hotel, newspaper, theater, and railway station, and even hosted inventor Thomas Edison during his time as a telegraph operator in 1864. Now repurposed, it serves as a mixed-use development, preserving its historic charm while offering 21 mixed-income apartment units and 21,326 square feet of commercial space that celebrate the unique history of Fort Wayne. Through the federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, Columbia Street West supports the growth and well-being of the Fort Wayne community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
