The former Dunean Mill, located in Greenville, South Carolina, was originally built in 1912 and has contributed to the city’s industrial heritage as one of the Upstate’s most significant textile mills. Nicknamed the “Million Dollar Mill” for its then-cutting-edge design and large scale, Dunean Mill operated for over a century, powered entirely by electricity and housing 50,000 spindles and 1,200 looms. Over time, operations downsized but never fully ceased under J.P. Stevens Co. Now repurposed, it serves as a residential development, offering loft-style apartments and additional residential buildings that maintain the mill’s architectural integrity. The redevelopment of the four-story mill office and adjacent warehouse bays along Stevens Street carefully restored original features such as exposed brick archways, timber posts, and steel-sash factory windows while incorporating modern amenities and art pieces created from salvaged mill equipment. The project also introduced two new brick-faced buildings to complement the mill’s industrial character.
