Iowa Mutual Insurance Building, located in DeWitt, Iowa, was originally built in 1924. Over the years, the building has been an integral part of DeWitt’s economic landscape, serving as the headquarters of Iowa Mutual Insurance. The building evolved over time, with expansions in 1974 reflecting the company’s growth and continued presence in the region. Following the closure of Iowa Mutual Insurance’s operations, the building remained a significant but underutilized landmark in downtown DeWitt. Now repurposed, it serves as a residential development, preserving its historic charm while offering 53 market-rate apartments, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, along with modern amenities such as covered parking, a gym, a movie room, a club room, and storage lockers. Through the federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HTC), Iowa Mutual Insurance Building supports the growth and well-being of the DeWitt community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
