The Gold Coast Apartments, located in Davenport, Iowa, was originally built in 1920. Over the years, the building has been an integral part of Davenport’s architectural and philanthropic history, originally serving as the Kahl Mansion, the family home of Henry Kahl. Designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style by architect Arthur Ebeling, it later became the Kahl Home for the Aged and Infirmed in 1955, operated by the Carmelite Sisters. The property remained a retirement home until it was purchased by Gold Coast Housing LLC in 2015. Now repurposed, it serves as a senior living community, preserving its historic charm while offering 49 market-rate apartments, including unique residences in the 1987 tower addition, a fitness area with stained glass windows, and a renovated carriage house. Through the federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HTC), The Gold Coast Apartments support the growth and well-being of the Davenport community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
