Moretz Mills, located in Hickory, North Carolina, was originally constructed in 1929 as Whisnant Hosiery Mills by brothers E.E. and C.L. Whisnant. The facility played a pivotal role in the expansion of the hosiery industry, contributing to North Carolina’s status as a national leader in textile manufacturing. Significant additions in 1937 and 1966 dramatically increased the mill’s capacity. Following ownership changes, including a sale to Adams-Millis Corporation in 1971, the mill ceased operations in 2011. Now repurposed, Moretz Mills has been transformed into a vibrant mixed-use space featuring office suites and an event venue. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and designated a local historic landmark in 2015, the revitalized property continues to serve the Hickory community while honoring its industrial heritage.
