The Packing House, located in Cambridge, Maryland, was originally built in 1920. Over the years, the building has been an integral part of Cambridge’s industrial landscape, serving as the last remaining factory of the Phillips Packing Company, which played a major role in the region’s agricultural and economic development. The company employed thousands and supplied food rations to American troops during World War II. After closing in the 1960s, the building remained vacant for decades. Now, repurposed, it serves as a mixed-use development, preserving its historic charm while offering a variety of tenants, including Blue Oyster Environmental, Four Eleven Kitchen, MERGE workspace, and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHDC), as well as a two-story event space called the Atrium. Through the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HTC), The Packing House supports the growth and well-being of the Cambridge community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
