West Side Bazaar, located in Buffalo, New York, was originally built in 1920. Over the years, the building has been an integral part of Buffalo’s brewing and distilling industries, originally serving as the Illinois Alcohol Company Building, which played a key role in the city’s economic development during the early 20th century. Designed to take advantage of the transshipment corridor of Niagara Street, it also housed an active bootlegging business during Prohibition. Now repurposed, it serves as a multicultural community hub, preserving its historic charm. The expanded space includes restaurants, retail and professional service businesses, test and rental kitchens, classrooms, event spaces, and offices for WEDI staff. Through the federal and State of New York Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HTC) and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), West Side Bazaar supports the growth and well-being of the Buffalo community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
