Rick Chukas is a Partner, Managing Director HTC for Monarch Private Capital. Monarch was founded in 2005 and serves as a fund manager for impact investments focused on federal and state tax credit opportunities. Rick brings more than 40 years of experience in real estate, specializing in syndication, financial structuring, valuation and various aspects of federal and state taxation affecting real estate. He works closely with real estate developers and sponsors to provide tax equity for the rehabilitation and repurposing of properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He also supports corporate investors in evaluating Historic Tax Credit investment opportunities that align with their financial and sustainability goals.

Rick is a graduate of Iowa State University where he obtained a BS in industrial administration and The University of Iowa where he obtained an MA in accounting. Prior to joining Monarch, Rick was a partner with Arthur Andersen & Co., where he held a number of senior leadership roles, including Head of Tax Practice – Nashville Office, Office Managing Partner – Nashville, SE Region Head of Strategy, Finance & Economic Practice and Global Managing Partner of Appraisal & Valuation Services.

Rick is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and past member of the Illinois Tax Increment Association, the Council of Development Finance Agencies and the Urban Land Institute, in addition to other professional organizations. He currently serves as a member of Monarch’s Management Committee and Board of Directors.

In addition to his professional roles, Rick is active in civic and charitable organizations and serves on the boards of several for-profit and nonprofit organizations. An accomplished competitive road cyclist, he regularly competes at both the state and national levels. One of his passions is introducing women and youth to the sport of cycling, helping to foster inclusivity and health through sport.

He is also a past speaker and author on topics including historic rehabilitation, real estate taxation and leadership.
