Peper Lofts, located in St. Louis, Missouri, was originally built in 1899 and served as a major processing and warehouse facility for the Christian Peper Tobacco Company, reflecting the city’s prominence in the tobacco industry at the turn of the 20th century . Designed by architect A.M. Beinke, the six-story industrial building included sloped floors to roll barrels of tobacco toward the nearby riverfront. After decades of use and later service as the headquarters of the regional transit agency, the building was vacated in 2015. Now repurposed, it serves as a mixed-use development offering residential loft apartments, commercial office space, and street-level retail while preserving its historic architectural features. Through the Federal and State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, Peper Lofts supports the growth and well-being of the St. Louis community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
