Keefer House Hotel, located in Hillsdale, Michigan, was originally built in 1885. Over the years, the building has been an integral part of Hillsdale’s hospitality industry, serving as a major stop for travelers during the expansion of rail service. The hotel welcomed famous guests such as Annie Oakley, “Buffalo Bill” Cody, and the Ringling Brothers. Beyond hospitality, it also functioned as a hospital and funeral home, providing essential services to the community before transitioning to a boarding house in the 1960s and eventually closing in 2002. Now under construction, it is being repurposed into a luxury boutique hotel, which will feature 34 upscale guest rooms, a full-service restaurant, community space and leased retail storefronts. Expected to be operational later this year, the Keefer House Hotel will preserve its historic charm while contributing to the growth and vitality of Hillsdale community. Supported by the federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, it ensures the building’s legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
