In the mid-20th century, it transitioned to packaging production under Gaylord Container Corporation and later Crown Zellerbach Corporation, operating as a cardboard box manufacturing plant. By the 1980s, industrial activity had declined, and the building remained underutilized until its acquisition for redevelopment. Now repurposed, it serves as a new Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Center, preserving its historic charm while offering a trauma-informed emergency shelter and resource center for victims of domestic violence. The facility will consolidate Safe Harbor’s services, including emergency housing, counseling, legal aid offices, and training space, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Through the South Carolina Textile Mill Tax Credit, Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Center supports the growth and well-being of the Greenville community, ensuring its legacy remains a vital part of the city’s future.
