McWilliams Building

McWilliams Building, located in Longview, Texas, was originally built in 1953 for the McWilliams Furniture Company and was designed as a six-story Art Deco office building with ground-level retail and upper-floor office spaces. The 45,000-square-foot structure features a rectangular design with a concrete foundation, buff brick cladding, and a flat roof, along with distinctive Art Deco detailing on its vertical piers and window surrounds. The building was funded by McWilliams Hardware & Furniture Company along with local businessmen J.B. (Jim) Bond, J.M. (Jimmie) Garrett, and H.P. McGaughey, and was designed by Martin T. Clements of the architectural firm Voelcker and Dixon, which also designed the Gregg County Courthouse. Now repurposed, it serves as a senior housing community, preserving its historic charm while offering 36 low-income housing units for rental to seniors. Monarch Private Capital provided the State HTC equity for Janna Cormier Development’s 2019 project.
