1917 Lofts

1917 Lofts, located in Red Oak, Iowa, originally served as the longtime home of Red Oak Middle School. After the school transitioned to another location, the historic building stood unused for a short period. Now repurposed, it has been thoughtfully converted into a 25-unit multifamily apartment community, preserving key architectural elements while adapting the space for modern residential use. Through the support of the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, 1917 Lofts contributes to the vitality of Red Oak, blending historic preservation with expanded housing opportunities that honor the building’s legacy.
